Mt. Comfort Sonshine School is a preschool ministry of Mt. Comfort Church of Christ. We believe that children are a gift from God, and it is the mission of our preschool to provide a loving, secure, Christ-centered learning environment that meets the developmental, emotional, and spiritual needs of each student.
Sonshine School is not a moneymaking facility and are only here to provide a ministry to the church family and surrounding community. We only want to cover our payroll and any costs for our program.
We believe that children learn best through play. “Play” is the language of a child, and “toys” are their words. Our staff strives to create a fun learning environment for your child that allows them to exercise their imagination, explore new ideas and practice social skills.
We believe that each child is unique and special—fearfully and wonderfully made. As such, our curriculum has been adapted by our staff to be age appropriate and engaging for each individual child at their various stages of development. Teachers use the ABC Jesus Loves Me curriculum for the two year olds up to our four years olds. Children spend time in different activities teaching them letter recognition and sounds, awareness of numbers and shapes, pre-reading skills and sight word recognition, as well as leaving plenty of time for just having fun! Our baby and toddler classes follow our church Bible class curriculum as well as special lessons and activities our teachers prepare.
A schedule will be posted in each classroom so you and your child knows what to expect each day.
All of our classes are staffed with highly qualified and experienced teachers. They are chosen for their love of children, their passion for teaching, and their desire to share their love of Jesus with others. Our teachers meet all of the minimum licensing requirements for early childcare centers as set forth by the state of Arkansas. This includes undergoing a criminal record check and a child maltreatment check, as well as providing both personal and professional references. In addition, they are required to complete 15 hours of continuing education each year.
We maintain a ratio of 1 adult to 6 children in the 6-11 month and 12-17 month classes, 1 adult to 9 children in 18-23 month class and 2 year old classes, 1 adult to 12 children in 3 year old classes and 1 adult to 15 in 4 year old classes.
